Ducks Trained to Manage Rice Paddies in Thailand The farmer in the video had 3000 ducks. Early in the morning 6 am, he would send the ducks with his 6 wheels truck to the padi field and picked up the ducks at 4pm. He would send the ducks to the field for about 2 months, just before the padi bore rice. The ducks would eat those bugs or insects that found in the field and the dropping of the ducks could be the natural fertilizer to the field. They took more than 2 months to train the ducks to get onto the trucks. Everyday, they can collect 2000 to 2500 eggs but during the rainy season, they can collect 500 to 700 eggs.
